Update 17/06/2021 : Closed in 2014 on the death of the long-serving landlord. Subsequent attempts to secure planning permission for residential conversion were rebuffed. Reported in 2019 that it had been bought by a couple who intended reopening it as a pub but no news since.

Update 30/07/2021 : Not in a very good location and the owner has been gloomy about its financial prospects. Had been up for sale for some time but the owner has taken it off the market to 'give it another go,. At the time of writing (July 2021), only open on Fridays and Saturdays.

Update 30/07/2021 : Closed early 2021 and being used as Bed & Breakfast accommodation. As this use is unauthorised, CAMRA asked the local planning authority to take enforcement action. As a result, the owners were given until the end of August to cease the unauthorised use of the pub building for B&B accommodation.

Update 30/07/2021 : The Polar Bear will reopen on 24/8/21 but only as a late-night music venue (10.30pm - 2.30am) and usually with an admission charge. Discussions are taking place with the owners to encourage them to take a more flexible approach e.g. opening when Hull City are playing at home.
