One of the great historic pubs of London. The interior has always retained much of its sumptuous original decoration but in 2008 owners Samuel Smiths took the remarkable step of fully restoring the 1891 layout of corridors and many small rooms around the island bar. The tiling and mirrors lend a sense of fantasy and gaiety while the ornate ceiling and original counter and bar back also repay attention. The gentlemen’s toilets meanwhile have to be seen to be believed.
