This impressive brick and ‘Brewers’ Tudor’ pub is an inter-war rebuild and has some attractive heraldic tiling from this time at both the front and back entrances. The historic arrangement of a lobby bar with a series of rooms radiating off remains but all this was reworked in a rather extraordinary style in, presumably, the 1950s or 1960s – hence the strange assortment of arched openings tricked out with faux stonework and heavy pointing. The same style reappears on the servery counter. Survivals from the inter-war years are some of the bench seating and the attractive fire-surround in the left-hand room.
