Tucked away up a lane in a wood, the pub is basically an appendage to a row of cottages. An old photograph shows how the present pub is a rebuilding of an older one in the same position. The present structure dates from c.1938; the public bar was built on the right and a "better", slightly more ornate room on the left hence the pretty vine trail cornice and Fleur-de-Lys decoration on the walls. Now they are linked by an opening. Features such as the counters, fireplaces, bar-backs with illuminated 'Charrington’s Ales' in both rooms probably date from the 1950s or 1960s. Both rooms have 1930s fireplaces but that on the left, of course, is more sophisticated and costly.
