This fine old hotel claims to date back to the fifteenth century but most of the current building is at least a hundred years younger and the ground floor has been much altered. The Oak Room was once two rooms, hence its L-shape, but contains several noteable features. Oak panelling covers all the walls, apart from a small wattle and daub section, and the impressive fireplaces both have carved over-mantles. Behind a glass screen is a large mid-C16 wall painting depicting the story of Tobias and the Angel from the Apochryphal Book of Tobit; it was uncovered during renovations in 1927.
